I wasn't really serious...
I keep getting emails about this blog. I really set it up just to see what would happen...and I got a flood of emails. Ooops. Cat's out of the bag. Pandora's box has been opened.
I didn't have anything specific to say, but like the blog itself, which I was asked a bunch of times to set up, I figured if a bunch of folks really asked for another post I'd put one up, so here I am.
Call this a little experiment. If there honestly is content that people want from me... I won't pontificate... I'm happy to share it. I won't randomly blather on, however, so please ask for what you want. (I like the idea of information reflecting the interests of the masses... see digg.com.)
Leave a comment. If you know what I'm involved in, know my history, and there is something you want to hear about, let me know, and we'll try to let more than one person hear the answer for a change.
Thanks for the explanation and the extra info in the digg article. Great news that the staff from digg are probably getting their own blog on digg!

Very interested in anything you have to say, information from someone who has been in the biz is invaluable.
I'm quite interested in hearing how you got into the roles you're in now.

Damn Jay, this is one ugly blog. Why don't you spruce it up with some David Hasselhoff videos. You can never have enough Hoff. :)

Can I have a job?
Posted by: Elizabeth | September 05, 2006 at 09:24 AM
A job where? At Jay's blog? :)
Posted by: Jay Adelson | September 05, 2006 at 09:50 AM
actually, I'm looking to become a personal chef. I make excellent food, which you might enjoy. I'm a burned out college student wanting to do something I really love.
Posted by: Elizabeth | September 05, 2006 at 09:56 AM
Well as much as I fantasize about having a personal chef, it will have to wait until a windfall. :)

haha, fair enough! well, in that case, I'd better go to class :P

It would be interesting to have a 'behind the scenes' site for digg. One where diggers could learn about the basis and foundation of hardware, digg's workplace, and the people that spend their lives helping it grow. I personally would also like to see before and after shots of tonight's Rev3 party :)
Posted by: Vince Capps | September 05, 2006 at 12:41 PM
Vince, that's one of my goals for the new digg blog. As for Rev3, the party isn't tonight... Unless you're throwing one!

What is digg's plan to survive if Disney's Internet Group dig.com decide to sue digg.com over copyright dilution?
Posted by: bob | September 05, 2006 at 04:59 PM
OK, I'll try to play along. Here goes...
In an interview I read or listened to with you (or both?), you made mention of the fact that when you extricated yourself from Equinix you made enough money to secure the future of your children, but not enough to become a VC yourself.
I was curious if you were just using that as a reference point to illustrate your need to still "work" so to speak, or were you actually implying that some day you'd like to take that next step beyond entrepreneurship and become an investor yourself?
If that's the case then you have to be thinking about the future of the web and web startups. So, where do you see the next big advancement in web technology coming from? Clearly with Rev3 you're betting on real, marketable video on the net. Do you think the next big advancement in how we, as a society (not just techies and nerds) use the internet in our day to day lives will be as a means of entertainment on the same level as the television? Or are you betting on something different altogether? Or maybe you're just trying to carve out your own little niche, and leave it at that?
Let us all know. I'm sure a lot of us are interested in your thoughts on the future.
Oh yeah, and now for the obligatory digg r0xorz comment.

Hey Jay, It's your birthday...! Congrats on all your success with Digg!
Meredith :)

Meredith was the only girl on the block from my sister's friends who didn't beat me up regularly, so she gets special carte blanche on this blog.

Jay could you make an appearance on the Diggnation show that would be cool, cause I still think Kevin Rose is running the show and it would be nice if you just stopped in with the other top dogs.

I was too busy beating up my bratty sisters, who, by the way, are STILL bratty!

Hi Jay,
I was wondering in regards to starting up the companies past and present, how do you go about finding quality people to join the team during the startup phase? Are they mostly through friends, job posting sites, business connections? Thanks.

Yo, cool would love to see more of this blog, maybe some inside pictures of the digg office !?

As a fulltime student and 40 hours a week interactive developer (front end mainly) at a design firm who is looking to move to the bay area in a year or so (after I get married) - what things should I know about getting a job at a start up or design firm in the bay area?
